Bank Heist is a lot of things. It's primarily dance music, but it's also a muse, an obsession, an incarnation of some perhaps geeky interests. Everyone who makes music knows that if you pour yourself into one project for too long (there are a few exceptions, see Prince, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, etc…) you risk exhausting its relevance, and hitting some sort of wall. Maybe that's all side projects are for – a music making vacation. I would be lying if I said that Bank Heist was separate from these things – it's definitely how it all came together a couple years ago, but I like to think it's grown into something more meaningful since then. The tracks on this album are meant to be fun, they're sometimes named after Green Lantern comics and about space travel, but the more I worked on this record, the more I realized that I am trying to communicate something with these tracks. I won't go so far as to write that out in black and white, but I will say is has something to do with appreciating mystery, approaching life with a youthful spirit – sometimes it's even about morality and what it means to be human. It's my hope that people can listen to this record and get lost in the imagination of low pass filters, reverb, sequencers, and synthesized drum fills, while at the same time taking a minute, maybe even just a few seconds, to reflect on what it means to exist.
